Welcome!

My name is Holly Edwards and I am running for City Council because I believe I can bring positive change to our community. As a nurse, as a community leader, and as an advocate for families and children, I am proud of the work that I've done over the years to make Charlottesville a better place.

There are many good things happening in Charlottesville, but we still have a lot of work to do. We need to ensure that all of our citizens have access to affordable housing, a good education, career-ladder jobs, and quality health care. We need to promote public transportation and protect our environment. We need to provide broader middle-class tax relief. I am passionate about these issues and I look forward to discussing them with you in the months ahead.

We have a long tradition in Charlottesville of nurses stepping up to play active roles in the public life of this community. I think of our former Mayors, Nancy O'Brien and Charles Barbour, the late Grace Tinsley, my friend David Simmons -- all of them were trained as healers and caregivers, and all of them have made enormous contributions to the health and vitality of our city. It would be a great honor for me to follow in their footsteps as I pursue this journey.

I know that this journey will have challenges. But I am used to working through challenges. I have pushed people to complete the requirements for a GED, I have taken people to the food bank, I have provided transportation to doctor appointments, made arrangements to get prescriptions filled, encouraged people to maintain a steady job; I have one by one connected resources so rent can get paid, served food for the homeless, coordinated health fairs, held hands, wiped tears, and helped people make decisions that will move them to the next level in their lives. Now it is time for me to move to the next level in my life. I welcome you to join me in my journey as I seek election to Charlottesville City Council!
